The 2021 Golden Wattle Bush Poetry Awards & Queensland Championship


Competition Opens: 30th April 2021Closing date: 28th May 2021. Results: 4th July 2021.

Poems must be written with good rhyme and meter and be about Australia, Australians or the Australian way of life.

This competition will be conducted under the auspices of the Australian Bush Poetry Association and in association with the Fellowship of Australian Writers (Qld) and the FAWQ Readers and Writers Festival Moreton Bay.

Entries are welcome from Interstate and overseas.

Maximum of 3 poems per entry. $10.00 per poem. Three poems for $25.00.

The ultimate aim of this competition is to encourage the writing of new work keeping the poetry of the common people and the spirit of traditional Australian poetry alive.

  • Open: Conditions apply (See Conditions of Entry) – Humorous and serious sections 
  • Novice:  Conditions apply (See Conditions of Entry) – Humorous and Serious sections
  • Junior: Conditions apply (See Conditions of Entry)

Prizes:

  • Queensland State Champion:  Graham Fredriksen trophy plus $350.00
    • Open Humorous – 1st Prize $350 – 2nd Prize $100 ­­– 3rd Prize $50.
    • Open Serious – 1st Prize $350 – 2nd Prize $100 – 3rd Prize $50
    • Novice Humorous – 1st place only. $100
    • Novice Serious – 1st place only. $100
    • Junior – 1st prize $75 – 2nd prize $25
    • Highly Commended and Commended Certificates will be awarded in all classes
